A responsive website is designed to automatically adjust its layout and content to fit the screen size and device it's being viewed on. This ensures a positive user experience whether someone is viewing your site on a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet, or even a mobile phone.
Text content is extremely important for your website for several reasons:
-Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Search engines like Google primarily rely on text content to understand what your website is about and how well it should rank for search queries. Informative and keyword-rich content helps search engines understand your website's topic and purpose, making it more likely to appear in search results when users enter relevant keywords.
-User Engagement: Text content informs and engages your visitors. It allows you to communicate your message, tell your story, and provide valuable information to your audience. High-quality content can keep users interested, convey your expertise, and establish trust with your visitors.
-Conversions: Whether your goal is to sell products, generate leads, or provide customer service, well-written text content can guide users towards taking a desired action. Clear calls to action and persuasive content can lead to conversions, such as purchases, signups, or contact requests.
-Brand Building: The tone and style of your website's text content contribute to your overall brand identity. You can use text content to establish your brand voice, personality, and values, creating a connection with your target audience.
There are a couple reasons why your brand new Google Sites website wouldn't be on the first page of Google (or even indexed yet):
-Indexing: It can take time for Google to discover and index new websites. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
-Competition: The competition for search terms can be fierce. If there are well-established websites targeting the same keywords you want to rank for, it'll be more challenging for your new site to appear on the first page.
-Content & SEO: Google prioritizes websites with high-quality content and strong SEO (Search Engine Optimization) practices. A new Google Sites website might not have enough content or lack optimization for relevant keywords to compete for top ranking.
I can give you instructions and show you a few things to edit, but adding and changing content on a Google Sites website is a fairly straightforward process. Here's a rundown:
Adding Content:
Navigate to Edit Mode: Open your Google Sites website. In the top right corner, click the "Edit" button. This switches the website from viewing mode to editing mode.
Select the Area: Click on the area where you want to add content. This could be an empty section or within an existing text box.
Insert Menu: A menu will appear on the right side of your screen. This menu lets you choose what type of content to add.
Choose Content Type: The menu offers options like Text box, Image, Embed URL, Upload, Divider, Google Drive, Google Docs, and more. Select the type of content you want to add.
Text Box: Lets you type text directly onto the page. You can format the text using the editing tools that appear above the text box.
Image: Allows you to add images from your device, Google Drive, or by searching the web.
Embed URL: Enables embedding photos, designs, and other web-based content by pasting a URL.
Upload: Lets you upload photos, videos, PDFs, or other documents from your device.
Divider: Inserts a horizontal line to visually separate sections of your content.
Add Content: Depending on the content type you chose, follow the prompts to add your content (e.g., typing text, uploading a file, pasting a URL).
Publish Changes: Once you've added your content, click the "Publish" button in the top right corner to make your changes live on the website.
Changing Content:
Edit Mode: Similar to adding content, start by switching to edit mode by clicking the "Edit" button in the top right corner.
Locate Content: Find the content you want to edit on your website. Click on it to select it.
Edit Options: Depending on the content type (text box, image, etc.), editing options will appear.
Text Box: Editing tools will be displayed above the text box, allowing you to format the text, change font styles, add links, etc. You can also directly edit the text within the box.
Images: You can replace an image by clicking on it and selecting "Replace image" from the menu.
Other Content Types: Editing options will vary depending on the content type. For instance, with embedded content, you might be able to edit the source URL.
Save Changes: Once you've made your edits, click the "Publish" button in the top right corner to save your changes and make them visible on the live website.
Additional Tips:
You can duplicate sections of your website by hovering over a section and clicking the "Duplicate section" icon.
To move sections of content up or down the page, click the "Move section" icon and drag the section to the desired location.
Google Sites offers a variety of pre-designed layouts you can choose from to structure your website's content.

What is a domain name? A domain name is the web address that people will type in their browser to reach your website (e.g., "yourbusiness.com").
Why is a domain name important? It's your website's identity on the internet. A good domain name is memorable, reflects your brand, and is easy to type and spell.
Here are some suggestions:
Keep it short and memorable.
Make it easy to spell and pronounce.
Use relevant keywords that reflect your business or website content.
Consider using a domain name extension that suits your website (e.g., .ca, .com, .net, .org).
We can brainstorm some alternative domain names or check for availability with different extensions.
I recommend buying the domain name from www.namecheap.com and the price is around $15-$20/year however there are many other sites where you can purchase a domain.
Domain names are typically registered for one year at a time, but you can usually register them for multiple years (even 10 years is possible).
.ca (Canadian Domain)
Pros:
Local Focus: Clearly indicates your website is Canadian, targeting a Canadian audience. This can be beneficial for businesses or organizations solely operating in Canada.
Search Engine Advantage (Limited): Google prioritizes .ca websites in search results for users searching on Google.ca. This can give you a slight local SEO boost.
Availability: Generally easier to find a short, memorable domain name with a .ca extension compared to a crowded .com space.
Brand Identity: Can contribute to a more Canadian brand identity.
Cons:
Limited Reach: May limit your reach to a global audience. People unfamiliar with .ca might perceive it as a less established website.
Not Universally Recognized: The .com domain is recognized worldwide, whereas .ca might not be familiar to everyone.
.com (Commercial Domain)
Pros:
Global Recognition: .com is the most popular and widely recognized domain extension worldwide.
Broader Reach: Suitable for businesses targeting an international audience.
Credibility: Often associated with established and professional websites.
Cons:
Availability: Finding a short, memorable domain name with a .com extension can be challenging due to its popularity. Domain names you want might already be taken.
Competition: Facing more competition in search results, especially for common keywords.
Less Local Focus: Doesn't explicitly indicate a Canadian website.
Choosing the Right One:
Target Audience: If your target audience is primarily Canadian, a .ca domain can be a good choice. If you aim for a global audience, a .com domain is preferable.
Brand Identity: Consider how the domain extension aligns with your brand image. A .ca domain might emphasize your Canadian roots, while a .com might project a more international presence.
Availability: Check if your desired domain name is available with both extensions. This might influence your decision.
Some Considerations:
Budget: While domain registration fees can vary, generally .com domains can be slightly more expensive.
Future Plans: If you ever plan to expand your business globally, a .com domain might be a more future-proof option.
Double Down: You can potentially register both the .ca and .com versions of your domain name to cover your bases. This way, you own both web addresses and prevent competitors from taking the other.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on your specific needs and goals. By weighing the pros and cons, you can select the domain extension that best suits your website and target audience.
Choosing the right domain name is important for your website's branding and online presence. Here's a guide to help you select the perfect one:
Brainstorming Ideas:
Keywords: Consider relevant keywords that reflect your website's content or business. Keywords can help users discover your site through search engines.
Brand Name: If you have an established brand name, incorporate it into your domain name for consistency and brand recognition.
Target Audience: Think about the kind of audience you want to attract. What words would resonate with them?
Keep it Short & Catchy: Short, memorable domain names are easier to type, spell, and recall. Aim for under 15 characters.
Easy to Pronounce & Spell: Avoid complex spellings or hyphens, which can create confusion and typos.
Availability: Check if your desired domain name is available with your preferred extension (.com, .org, etc.) using a domain name search tool.
Choosing the Right Extension:
.com: Most popular and widely recognized, ideal for global reach.
.org: Often used for non-profit organizations or educational websites.
.net: Originally for network-related sites, but now used for various purposes.
Country-Specific Extensions (like .ca): Indicate a local focus, good for targeting a specific country's audience.
Additional Tips:
Brand Matching: Ideally, your domain name should reflect your brand identity.
Future-Proofing: Consider if the domain name can accommodate your website's growth or potential expansion.
Double-Check Typos: People might mistype your domain name. Consider registering common misspellings to capture that traffic.
Get Feedback: Run your shortlisted names by friends, colleagues, or potential customers for their opinion.
Tools and Resources:
Domain Name Generators: Online tools can suggest domain names based on your keywords.
WHOIS Search: Check if a domain name is available and who owns it currently.
Domain Registration Services: Platforms like Namecheap, or GoDaddy can help you register your chosen domain name.
Remember, a good domain name is an investment in your online presence. Take your time, brainstorm creatively, and choose a name that represents your website and brand effectively.
